|05:03 pm - Wednesday wish-places, plus v. brief film review|
Last week I finally saw Joss Whedon's film of Much Ado About Nothing, and from that come my Wednesday wish-places.
The film: It was fine. I am so sorry to report that the wonderful Alexis Denisof's Benedick didn't much work for me (although he is v. athletic and in excellent shape); I'm not sure why, except that I wanted more gravitas, more reality, less dudebro, something. Amy Acker's Beatrice, however, was outstanding, clever, wounded, funny, light and strong. Also, when the people tell you that Nathan Fillion (and Tom Lenk) make the comic relief work and in a very fresh way, BELIEVE THEM. [claps madly for Fillion and Lenk]
What is so very cool about this film, however, is Joss Whedon's house. I love the Spanish influences, the courtyard and terrace spaces, the light -- even in black-and-white, it's glowing and gorgeous.
And thinking about that kind of SoCal mansion makes me think too about LA mid-century modern houses, which I love -- like this house. I couldn't live there, because I am not wholly suited to all that glass and sharp angles, but it's delicious to wish myself there for an afternoon visit.
Where I really wish to be, of course, is here. But I am trying to expand my wish-horizons. :)
Where do you want to be today? May you travel well in your wishes!
Yes, I spent a majority of that film drooling over the house. :-)
GREAT house, absolutely. :))
Hugs, C! Happy Wednesday!
Those are all lovely places, but today I am exactly where I wish to be after yet another bout of travel, to wit, at home with the cat, autumn sun and drifts of maple leaves on the deck.
(That London sidewalk is pretty tempting though...)
Cheers and hugs!
Hurrah for your safe return! Hurrah for you!

I haven't seen Much Ado About Nothing yet but I can well believe that Amy Acker is an outstanding Beatrice.
I love that view of London but do you really wish for the rain as well :)
She is one of the finest Beatrices I've ever seen. :)
I do like London in rain, although true, a cold drizzling December night on the South Bank is perhaps not ideal.... ;)
Hugs hugs, K!

I was wishing for South-East Asia this morning when it was grey and pouring. Then the sun came out and so did the squirrels...
Anywhere particular in South-East Asia? But London in sunshiny autumn is good too. :)
Hugs and warmth, L!
I haven't seen the film yet, but it is on my Netflix list!

A perfect icon, thank you. :)
Cheers and hugs and swift Netflix queues, Gwynne!
(Sorry, log-in issues. ;))
Gorgeous! You are a beach person indeed!
Cheers, and have a lovely Thursday ahead.
Much Ado is on my list of things to watch, a lot of it does have to do with the look of the house and the soundtrack.
Wish places; London, of course (gorgeous picture), LA to shop, Bora Bora to hang out on the beach, a cruise - but only if it's an old-timey art deco ship, and I'd love to take a ride on the Orient Express.
The setting (the garden terraces as well as the house) is perfection. Enjoy when you get to the film. :))
Oooh, Art Deco ships and the Orient Express -- what fun ideas! Cheers to that, and for you. [hugs]
That place looks LOVELY. Will keep good thoughts for you to be there soonest!
Hugs, L, and a happy day.
I need to see that film. I also need the boots worn in the photo of JW's house.
I would be terrified in the other LA house. Too open, too high.
The film is fun, the boots fabulous. :))
I feel that most hillside houses are too exposed, yes, at least to live in. An afternoon visit would be fine.
