|04:23 pm - Friday, falling down|
Okay, I am not literally falling down, but a trip and fall could be happening any moment. I am so, so tired. I am too tired for a glass of wine, that's how tired I am.
(Regrettably I have, in Emma Thompson's words to Hugh Grant as immortalized in her shooting diary for Sense and Sensibility, the "stamina of a whelk." Yesterday wore me down.)
The heat is not actually helping either. Here in the subtropics we are suffering mid-September weather in mid-October: muggy, hot even at sunrise, vile at every time.
So after managing half of the work I needed to do today, I crawled homeward and took up Ngaio Marsh's Final Curtain, which I've been rereading. O for Rory's return to his Troy! O for a frankly creepy theatrical family in the Ancreds! (And alas for Dame Ngaio's treatment of one of the gay characters, which is displeasing.) I am feeling the need to imagine myself somewhere very much more autumnal and nice.
I have sweaters. It should be time for me to wear sweaters. I frown at the world. I retreat to Golden Age mysteries.
May you have either a lovely time or a lovely place to retreat today.
If I can get through the next hour and half of work I will be very happy to retreat home and put my feet up (with a glass of wine, I'm not that tired).
You'll make it! The weekend is RIGHT HERE!
[cheers you on]
And enjoy your glass of wine for me. :)

Hugs, tea, and digestives, L! Happy weekend.

If it's any comfort to you it's warm here in the UK. I needed my winter coat last week, put it on today and was sweltering.
I was feeling an urgent need to read a Dorothy L Sayers earlier this week but I've picked Sarah Caudwell instead. She may not actually be Golden Age but she reads as if she should have been.
Have a lovely weekend and I hope you manage some wine tomorrow :)
Oh dear. It should be proper temperature where you are! (However, since I've been watching the problems with British Gas, perhaps it's not entirely bad that it's not too cool yet....)
I actually took one of my Sarah Caudwell books out of the bookshelf last week and put it on my TBR pile. We are in sync, K!
Hugs and a great start to your weekend!
Why is it so hot? What have we done to deserve this?
I want crispy fall weather! I want the smell of burning leaves! Dear God, I want it to drop below 70 degrees while the sun is up!
Ahem. I hope all is well with you.
Chase, I am echoing every single bit of your cri de coeur. WHY WHY WHY is it this vile?!
Yes, I've been driven to interrobangs.
Cooler days for us both, I hope. Sending good autumn thoughts a county or two over.... ;)
You should indeed be able to wear sweaters. Sending cooling thoughts your way and fingers crossed for a restful week-end.
Thank you, ALH -- hugs, yarn, and good wine for your weekend! :)
I hope you get sweater weather very soon!
(OMG today's GH!!!) :-)
Friday's GH had some blockbuster scenes indeed, and oooh, Monday's looks great when the parents arrive on the island. But I think my favorite scenes were poor Tracy having to deal with Luke. "I'll have the pig," heee.
Hugs hugs, Gwynne! Happy day!
So sorry about the weather -- that's really awful. And fall allergies seem to be extra vicious this year.
Sweaters and a good book.
H_P, hugs hugs! And HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
[hugs a million]

I shouldn't have a glass of wine tonight, I have to be able to drive tomorrow morning, not to mention do the Aged Mum shopping.
But I'll raise a virtual glass of white zin with you.
Time to wear sweaters? If only it was. I'd settle for consistent weather from day to day. Hot? Cold? Humid? Dry? Pick a side, we're at war.
*hugs* and feel better soon. I hope you can rest up over the weekend.
Better weather and an easy day for you, A. Hugs! Happy Saturday!
Enjoy your wonderful autumn days on my behalf! Because "brisk, brilliant" days are the best. :)
Hugs and a joyous Saturday!
Retreat is the theme for the weekend.
It is so much the time for autumn to settle in.
Autumn is really late here this year. But we persevere. ;)
Hugs hugs and cool fall stuff!
