|08:23 am - Two Morning Walks|
Yesterday, full dark, the temperature ten degrees above normal and feeling like August, but with a hint of the north breeze bringing the promised cool -- Master Danger and I went out into the pre-dawn.
On the boundary street to our west, a man holding a full Winn-Dixie bag stood in the street, in a pool of dark between two streetlights. Unmoving, he watched us approach. Master Danger saw him and began to growl and pull at the lead, but I didn't think the man was threatening so I controlled the young master. As my now merely belligerent dog and I passed him, the man said softly, "Good morning."
He was still standing in the street when Master Danger and I crossed the road a block later.
Today, cloudy-dark, with striations of red-gold and dark grey in the eastern sky, the temperature five degrees below normal and feeling like heaven -- Master Danger and I went out into the dawn.
No one was at the park as we made our first turn on our circuit. We had the sunrise to ourselves until the small hill, where a middle-aged man with headphones was walking up the hill and down, up the hill and down.
We went past the knot of children and parents waiting for the schoolbus, walked the lovely sidewalk under the trees at the School Board site, made our second big turn on our circuit. The sky was lightening grey, the wind brisk, our pace slowed by Master Danger tasting it every few strides.
Third turn at the intersection with the churches. It's food-bank day at both the Methodist and the Episcopal churches. A man in a windbreaker sat at the doors of the Methodist hall, watching Master Danger and me walk by. A group of people sat on the porch of the Episcopal Faith in Action building. One voice called out to us, "Your dog seems to be havin' a good time sniffing and stopping!" I nodded and waved back.
Ahead of us a streetlight flickered fast fast fast, is it day is it night is it day.
Good morning, I said to myself. Good morning.
May you have a wonderful day ahead of you, wherever and whenever you are.
Sounds like a lovely walk this morning. I'm determined that today will be a day of Getting Things Done, and have crossed a few off the list already.
It was a glorious walk.
Hurrah for your Getting Things Done! Applause! :) And have a lovely rest of your day.
Hooray for some lovely coolth!
And a very happy Thursday to you.
The cool weather makes me so happy, even when I'm buffeted by work.
Hugs, ALH! Happy Thursday!
Oh, what a gorgeous post. Happy fall weather, my friend.
Thanks, F, and happy rest of your Thursday! Enjoy the breeze. :))
It must be hard some days to get up early, but what a wonderful way to start the day :-)
::tea and hugs::
I hold on to days like today -- because there is August, and there is February, and it's less fun walking then. ;)
Hugs and joy, C!
